TOMORROW IS THE QUESTION ARoS Aarhus Art Museum 06 April 2019 – 04 August 2019 ABOUT THE EXHIBITION The questions we ask today are instrumental in shaping tomorrow’s world. 'Tomorrow is the Question' is an extensive and ambitious group exhibition of international contemporary art eliciting reflection and discussion of present and future challenges. At the core of 'Tomorrow is the Question' is the issue about our common future. Through sculptures, video works, installations, and interactive works, the artists address the changes and challenges in terms of resources currently facing humanity. 'Tomorrow is the Question' takes as its focal point the radical nature of the current global paradigm shift. The exhibition is about how today we live in times of upheaval, and about how escalating technological developments will fundamentally change key aspects that define our lives – such as how we relate to the resources of the world, how we enter into social communities and what everyday life will be like for individuals. From the realms of the distant and remote to the intimate and domestic. The works featured in the exhibition ask how we define value in the world around us and the consequences of such definitions – for us and for future generations. 'Tomorrow is the Question' – for tomorrow is an open question, a unique opportunity to imagine an alternative to the developments currently defining our world and creating overwhelming instability. An alternative that will pave the way for better and balanced lives for all. An alternative that will protect the resources of our planet. We can all shape the future - as long as we have the imagination to envision it. In connection with the exhibition, ARoS has published a catalogue with contributions from Erlend G. Høyersten, museum director; Luise Faurschou, visiting curator; and Tor Nørretranders, author of popular science books. Moreover, the catalogue includes two peer-reviewed research texts, one by Nanna Bonde Thylstrup and Ulrik Ekman, and one by Anette Vandsø. 'Tomorrow is the Question' is initiated and curated by Luise Faurschou, Founder and Director, Faurschou Art Resources and ART 2030, in collaboration with Erlend G. Høyersten, Director, ARoS. FEATURED ARTISTS The exhibition features works by artists including Doug Aitken, Allora & Calzadilla, Olafur Eliasson, Edward Burtynsky, Julian Charrière, Simon Denny, Cao Fei, Mona Hatoum, Alfredo Jaar, Raqs Media Collective, Tomás Saraceno, Hito Steyerl, teamLab, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Qiu Zhijie.
